Qu'Appelle Calling

Do What You Say You're Going To Do?

Isn't this the most annoying thing you could possibly think of? Someone who says they will do something for you and then doesn't? What are they thinking? Or are they thinking period? Likely answer to that is NO. If there is one thing that is THE most rude and thoughtless kind of human behaviour, this would be it. It's one thing to say you will do something for someone, get into a bind and discover you cannot help them out - BUT - you call them or let them know you can't help. That is thoughtful.

Saying you will do something then not doing it and NOT TELLING them you've bailed out on them is downright ignorant. The person was counting on you to do something, and now that it isn't done, and they cannot do it for themselves, you have just made yourself an enemy. Not to mention what it says about your level of honesty and commitment. It speaks volumes about your lack of character too. Who do you think will EVER trust you again to do ANYTHING?

Say you pull this stunt on more than one person, and agree you will cut their hay for them while they are away on holidays. You decide the land is too rough to take your equipment into their pasture (this despite others having cut it just fine over the years). But you don't tell them that.  And say you also said you would cut another person's pasture and just don't do it either because - shrug - you had something else to do.

That person returns from holidays and finds things NOT done. S*IT hits the fan. And so it should. By not living up to your part of a deal you have just put two people in a real bind for feeding their animals for the winter. They may lose their harvest thanks to you.

Think twice about EVER showing your rather lazy attitude around town again.

And on the farm:

Being serenaded by the birds in the morning is rather a nice way to wake up. Lively chirping, and melodious song - well - okay most of the singing is music to the ear - except the soprano accompaniment of Mr. Rip the Heeler x Heeler.

He doesn't miss too many notes, but thing is, they aren't usually the RIGHT ones. To say the blend of voices is eclectic may be the politest thing that one can come up with. Usually at 5:30 am there is at least one human shouting out the window to SHUSH UP.

Oh well, he's happy and has a grin on his face while singing. Can't say the same for the human at 5:30 in the morning.

And how was YOUR week?

Ken's Korner

Family Farmers wants to extend our most sincere congratulations to Paul Beingessner, who was recently awarded an honorary life membership by the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists.  He joins a pretty select group of people who have contributed greatly to the agriculture scene here in Saskatchewan.  Check out their website for a full list of those who have been honored over the years.  Again, congratulations Paul, it is a well deserved award.

Although it may seem as if the prairie branch line rail network has been completely skeletonized by the major railways, the job is not yet truly complete. CP still has 911 kilometres of track on its Three-Year Plan for abandonment in the prairie provinces, and CN has 613 kilometres. Nor does this rule out further abandonments by the major carriers. At least one major railway has stated that there are still too many grain elevator points and by extension, too many rail lines.

Little MoJo, a Yorkie/Havanese cross, is the herd sire among the non-purebreds. Once the pups are born he hasn’t got the slightest interest in them, in fact avoids them completely. However, the ankle-biters’ mother, Tripod (or Sweetie as she is supposed to be called – she has only three legs) was retired as soon as the pups were weaned, and she was given to a good home. As soon as she left, MoJo took over the care of the little guys, playing with them constantly and, occasionally, disciplining them. What a change!
